Manchester United Seeks Victory as Brighton Aims for Europa League Qualification

The 2025/26 season is winding down with many teams concluding their campaigns in the upcoming week, just ahead of the World Cup starting in a matter of weeks.

Manchester United is among those teams, playing their final match of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

While Bruno Fernandes will aim to establish a new Premier League assists record, Brighton will be fighting for a chance to secure a Europa League spot in this crucial game.

Across the globe, various teams are also contending for honors such as qualifications for competitions or promotions.

Salford City was one such team, but they fell short in their quest for automatic promotion from League Two on the final day of the season, leading to emotional scenes for both Sir David Beckham and Gary Neville.

In LaLiga, former Manchester United players Donny van de Beek and Daley Blind faced their own disappointment on the last day of the season, as their team Girona was relegated to 19th place following a draw with Elche.

Despite being absent from the squad, Blind did not play in the crucial match, while van de Beek was actively involved as the team slipped to the second tier of Spanish football.

This relegation casts uncertainty over the future for both players, prompting the club to consider serious changes to mount a promotion bid next season.

Both players played significant roles during the season, with Daley Blind making 31 appearances and Donny van de Beek participating in two matches.

Girona had not competed in the second tier of Spanish football for four years, having gained promotion to LaLiga in the 2021-22 season and even finishing third just two seasons ago, making this relegation even more surprising.
