Manchester United Eyes Mateus Fernandes Amid Summer Transfer Evaluations

Mateus Fernandes has emerged as a target for Manchester United this summer as the club reassesses its recruitment strategy. The 21-year-old midfielder, currently with West Ham United, has had a solid season, making 37 appearances and contributing four goals and three assists.

In addition to his scoring contributions, Fernandes has showcased his playmaking abilities, creating 35 chances and completing 28 successful dribbles from his central midfield role, aiding West Ham’s offensive efforts.

Bruno Fernandes, who has trained alongside Mateus at the international level with Portugal, is reportedly encouraging the club to pursue the young midfielder. With West Ham’s Premier League status uncertain until the final day of the season on Sunday, the club has indicated its asking price, providing clarity for interested parties as the transfer window approaches.

According to MailSport, West Ham seeks £80 million for Mateus Fernandes this summer. The midfielder has also drawn attention from both Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, who are closely monitoring his progress in this crucial period.

As Manchester United prepares for potential midfield acquisitions, they appear set to finalize a signing of Ederson, having already agreed on personal terms earlier this month. However, with Arsenal and PSG expressing interest in Fernandes, the Red Devils may face competition for his signature, should they decide to move forward with a bid.

The decision-makers at United now confront a choice: pursue Fernandes and meet West Ham’s valuation or explore other options. Hayden Hackney, available for a more economical £20 million, could be a viable alternative, but interest from Leeds United and Crystal Palace may complicate matters.
