Club América Femenil Claims 2025-26 Concacaf W Champions Cup Title with 5-3 Victory Over Washington Spirit
Club América Femenil triumphed over the Washington Spirit 5-3 on Saturday, securing the 2025-26 Concacaf W Champions Cup title.
In an action-packed match, Brazilian forward Geyse scored twice for América. The Spirit managed to recover from an early 2-0 deficit to take the lead at 3-2 before conceding three unanswered goals.
Irene Guerrero netted the decisive goal in the 79th minute, while América captain Scarlett Camberos added a fifth in stoppage time.
This victory also guarantees América a spot in the 2027 FIFA Champions Cup and the 2028 Club World Cup, joining Barcelona, who clinched the European title on the same day.
Prior to this final, América claimed the Liga MX Femenil Clausura title and secured a 4-1 win against reigning NWSL champions Gotham FC in the semifinal.
The scoring started in the 22nd minute when Aylín Aviléz converted a pass from Camberos, and Geyse doubled the lead just five minutes later.
Spirit forward Sofia Cantore responded with a stunning long-range goal in the 30th minute to keep the match competitive.
Washington forward Rosemonde Kouassi then scored twice shortly after halftime, bringing her team to a 3-2 lead that lasted only minutes.
Geyse equalized when she pressured Spirit goalkeeper Sandy MacIver, deflecting a clearance into the net.
Guerrero soon scored the go-ahead goal, and Camberos capped off the scoring with a feed from Geyse in stoppage time.
Camberos was named player of the tournament, and Kouassi emerged as the top scorer with six goals throughout the competition.
The Spirit, who finished as runners-up in the NWSL for the past two seasons, will aim to qualify for the 2027 Concacaf W Champions Cup, where the winner will also earn a spot in the inaugural Club World Cup in 2028.
“I think we are going to learn from this and we will keep getting in finals and, for sure, we will win finals in the future,” said Spirit head coach Adrián González.
