Orlando Pirates have secured the Betway Premiership title today, adding to their victories in the MTN 8 and Carling Cup trophies this season. This achievement marks the club’s third treble in South African football history.
The Pirates, also known as the Sea Robbers, showcased an impressive performance at Mbombela Stadium, defeating Orbit College 2-0. Both goals came from own goals, credited to Orbit College’s goalkeeper Sanele Nkomo and defender Ndumiso Ngiba.
With this victory, the Pirates have now claimed their maiden treble in the 2010/11, 2011/12, and the current 2025/26 season. The joyous celebrations at the 2010 World Cup venue marked a significant moment, as they halted Mamelodi Sundowns’ recent dominance in local football.
Pirates finished the season just one point ahead of Sundowns, who ended in second place with 68 points. The decisive win was confirmed when referee Philangenkosi Khumalo blew the final whistle, igniting rapturous celebrations among the Pirates’ supporters at Mbombela Stadium.
