Ruben Amorim’s main task as Manchester United coach is to foster a culture and spirit of unity within the squad. He hopes that supporters can witness the growth of a new identity when Manchester United plays against Ipswich Town.
Amorim is keen to improve on a poor start to the season that has left United in 14th place in the Premier League table.
“I would like to give you beautiful words, but I am being completely honest. What I can promise you is that you will see a concept. You may like it or not, but you will see a concept. You will see something that we are trying to achieve at that level,” Amorim was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Amorim will have just two training sessions before his Premier League debut after the international break, and he said instilling culture is as important as tactics and formation.
“A lot of people talk about 3-4-3 and 4-3-3 tactics. But when I think as a player or a teammate at Manchester United, the most important thing is not the system, but the character of the players, their view of the club,” Amorom said.
“Therefore, we have to concentrate on that aspect before considering how we play and how we press. Right now, the most important thing for me is to create the principles, identity and character that we once had.”
Amorim tasted success with Sporting Lisbon. Under Amorim’s era, Sporting ended their title drought of almost two decades. Sporting won the title in 2021 and 2024.
“I think everyone craves success and I feel like this is the place I’m looking for. You can be a part of something amazing,” Amorim said.
“However, the main reason I took this job is because this club has an incredible history.”
