Marcus Rashford Nears Conclusion of Barcelona Loan as Future Uncertain
Marcus Rashford is approaching the end of his loan spell with Barcelona, leaving his future uncertain as the summer transfer window looms. The England international, who joined the Spanish giants on a loan deal for the season last summer, made a significant impact during his time at the club, tallying 14 goals and 11 assists in 49 appearances.
Throughout the season, Rashford has garnered praise from the Spanish media, highlighting his contributions. However, he also faced criticism at times.
This past Saturday, the 28-year-old participated in his final match of the season-long loan agreement against Valencia. Coach Hansi Flick opted to start Rashford, but he was unable to find the net or provide assists as Barcelona suffered a 3-1 defeat.
Following the match, Spanish media shared their assessments as Barcelona closed out their season. Barca Universal rated the English international at 6/10, commenting: “The Englishman constantly looked to cut inside and take a shot on goal, only for him to lose possession time and time again. Rashford’s presence was crucial for Barcelona to create transitional threats and add pace to the attack. Yet, his lack of complete control of the ball was often disappointing.”
SPORT also awarded Rashford a 6/10, noting he was “leathery,” which typically describes a player who runs a lot but doesn’t finish opportunities. “At Barça, you have to demand more from a winger beyond the impressive stats of the Englishman,” they stated.
AS did not provide a numerical rating but remarked that Rashford was “very dynamic, both on the left and right wings, yet he still lacks the punch to finish his plays.” They also mentioned that his continuity remains uncertain, but highlighted that he has Flick as a strong supporter.
Rashford is set to join England’s World Cup squad, having received an earlier call-up this week, as the team prepares for their first friendly against New Zealand on Saturday, June 6th.
