Marcus Rashford’s Loan Spell at Barcelona Comes to a Close
Marcus Rashford is nearing the conclusion of his loan spell with Barcelona as uncertainty surrounds his future ahead of the summer transfer window.
The England international, who joined the Spanish giants on a loan deal for the season last summer, has enjoyed a productive spell, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 49 appearances.
Throughout the season, Rashford has garnered significant praise from Spanish media for his performances, although he has also faced some criticism.
On Saturday, the 28-year-old participated in what was his last match of the loan at Barcelona, facing off against Valencia.
Coach Hansi Flick granted Rashford a starting position, but he could not find the back of the net or provide any assists as the LaLiga champions suffered a 3-1 defeat.
Following the match, the Spanish press reacted as Barcelona concluded their season.
Barca Universal rated the English international at 6/10, stating: “The Englishman constantly looked to cut inside and shoot, only to lose possession time and time again.
“Rashford’s presence was crucial for Barcelona to create transitional threats and add pace to the attack, although his struggles with ball control were often disappointing.”
SPORT assigned a similar 6/10 to the 28-year-old, describing him as “leathery,” a term often used to characterize players who run a lot without finishing effectively.
“At Barça, more is expected from a winger, beyond the impressive statistics of the Englishman.”
AS did not give a numerical rating but commented that Rashford was “very dynamic, both on the left and right wings, but he still requires a bit more sharpness to finish his plays effectively.”
“His future remains uncertain, but he has Flick as one of his key supporters.”
Marcus Rashford will now join the England World Cup squad, having received a call-up earlier this week, ahead of the nation’s first friendly against New Zealand on Saturday, June 6.
