Tottenham Faces Key Decisions to Rebuild Squad

Tottenham Hotspur aims to sign top players this summer as they look to rebuild their squad following a challenging season.

The Lilywhites have found themselves in a relegation battle that has extended to the final day of the campaign. Under the guidance of manager Roberto De Zerbi, they need only to earn a point against Everton to ensure their place in the Premier League, putting West Ham at risk depending on their match against Leeds United at the London Stadium this Sunday.

Securing Premier League status is critical today, allowing the N17 club to shift its focus entirely to recruits who can help close the gap on their rivals in the upcoming season.

It is apparent that the North London club must strengthen their midfield in the summer. Currently, they lack both quality and depth in that area, a situation worsened by ongoing injuries. The club cannot restrict its investments solely to young prospects, as they need proven talent to elevate their gameplay.

Tottenham Gains Advantage in Pursuit of Sporting CP Star Morten Hjulmand

Spurs have expressed interest in signing Morten Hjulmand, the captain of Sporting CP. The defensive midfielder has been a standout performer for Sporting, notably enjoying a strong 2025/26 season with three goals and six assists in 44 appearances.

The Denmark international has a release clause of €80 million in his contract, which is valid until 2028. However, the chances of the 26-year-old leaving after this season seem high. According to reports from Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Sporting CP is nearing the signing of BK Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen, a potential replacement for Hjulmand.

Reports indicate that Sporting would enter negotiations for Hjulmand at approximately €60 million, despite his €80 million buyout clause. The likelihood of Andersen’s acquisition by the Portuguese club is therefore seen as a positive development for Tottenham.

Hjulmand would align well with De Zerbi’s tactical approach, boasting strong distribution skills, ball-winning abilities, game awareness, and leadership. His experience would be a significant upgrade over Yves Bissouma, who is set to leave Tottenham on a free transfer this summer.

However, lacking European football next season will make it challenging for the Tottenham manager to convince the Sporting CP captain to join the club’s project. Nevertheless, it is crucial for them to engage with the player’s representatives and assess the Portuguese club’s willingness to negotiate during the transfer window.
