Arsenal will play week 23 of the Premier League against Liverpool at Emirates Stadium, Sunday (04/02) at 20.00 IST. Both of them, along with Manchester City, are both hunting for the Premier League title.
Liverpool top the table with 51 points from 22 games and Arsenal are third with 46 points, while Man City are second with 46 points and still have one game in hand.
Liverpool are in good momentum and have been ‘crazy’ since Jurgen Klopp decided to step down at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Arsenal, after the mid-season break, showed a resurgence and won the last two league games.
Arsenal last season won 3-2 over Liverpool at Emirates Stadium and that’s a warning for the visitors. The match will be the 200th meeting of the two teams in the league with records: Liverpool have won 79 times, Arsenal 66 times, drawn 54 times.
Team News
Takehiro Tomiyasu is out as he is still featuring in the 2023 Asian Cup, while Thomas Partey’s condition is doubtful. Two other Arsenal players are out through injury, Jurrien Timber and Fabio Vieira.
Liverpool also have players missing through injury namely Joel Matip, Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara, and Kostas Tsimikas. Wataru Endo is out due to playing in the 2023 Asian Cup, while Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah’s conditions are doubtful.
Comment
Mikel Arteta insists fans shouldn’t worry about struggling to score against Liverpool, after going through the transfer window without signing a new striker.
“And if we win tomorrow (Sunday) and score a lot of goals? I think like this, ‘I love my players and I think tomorrow they will score goals and they will be at the top’. They deserve all the credit for what they did,” said Arteta.
“We scored goals in different ways in the last fortnight, and that was great to see. The team has to dominate every aspect of the game if we want to be at the top.”
“We concede less than last season, we score more goals. That margin has to be reflected in the score, that’s what matters.”
While Jurgen Klopp emphasized that Liverpool must win every game for the Premier League title, because rivals Man City, the three-time defending champions, are doing the same.
“If you want to beat City, you have to win all your football games, because they do,” said Klopp.
“This is the league, this is the time. City are dominating. They might consider themselves not playing their best season, but they are still where they are. They are two points behind us.”
“We’re just trying to play the best season we can play. When we face them (in March at Anfield), we have to beat them.”
“Arsenal if they beat us, they are there (in the title race). If not, ask them or anyone else to see what that means.”
