Panaji: In the AFC Champions League Group D match, FC Goa faced a defeat. Played at their home ground, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, they lost 0-2 to the Iraqi club Al Suwaiq. Despite showing good performance throughout the match, Goa’s finishing issues hurt their chances.
From the start of the match, both teams launched attacks. Al Suwaiq’s Mohammed Qasim had a powerful shot that hit the crossbar, while FC Goa’s Javier Siverio sent a header over the goalpost. Just before the first half ended, Resikh Benihani scored, putting Al Suwaiq in the lead.
In the second half, FC Goa continuously sought an equalizer but couldn’t break through Al Suwaiq’s defense. Ayush Chhetri and Siverio tested the Al Suwaiq goalkeeper Jalal Hassan, but he made key saves to maintain the lead. In injury time, Nisar Al-Rashdan added another goal, securing the victory for Al Suwaiq.
