In the Carabao Cup match against Southampton, Liverpool‘s young defender, Giovanni Leoni, sustained a serious knee injury. He was taken off the field on a stretcher after getting hurt in the second half. Liverpool manager Arne Slot commented after the match, stating, “When a player has to leave the field under such circumstances, it’s not a good sign.”
Leoni started the game well but suffered a knee injury. The medical team has stated that he will undergo an ACL injury assessment. They are currently waiting for the test results. If it is an ACL injury, Leoni could be sidelined for more than nine months. If it’s a meniscus injury, he may be out for about four months, while a less severe injury could see him back in weeks.
