Facing ongoing challenges in domestic and European leagues, Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers has resigned. This marks the end of his second term as the club’s manager. The decision came after a significant 3-1 loss to Hearts on Sunday, leaving Celtic eight points behind in the Scottish Premiership title race.
At the start of the season, the club’s exit from the Champions League qualifying round to Kairat Almaty increased dissatisfaction among fans and officials. In a statement released on Monday evening, Celtic thanked Rodgers, who has led the club to two titles, but emphasized the need for a new direction following a “poor start to the season.”
The club has appointed Shaun Maloney as interim manager, after the legendary Martin O’Neill managed Celtic from 2000 to 2005. The search for a permanent head coach has already begun.
