New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and CEOs of Indian Super League (ISL) clubs have failed to reach an agreement, worsening the crisis in Indian football. This has resulted in the complete halt of the domestic football season. The inability of the AIFF to find a new commercial partner after Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) ended their partnership has left the 2025-26 season uncertain. Consequently, clubs, including the defending champions Mohun Bagan, have stopped training, leading to significant frustration among players and staff.
The crisis has deepened as no bidders have responded to the commercial tenders for running the league. Prominent players like Sunil Chhetri and Sandesh Jhingan have urged for an urgent resolution, as many depend on football for their livelihoods.
In response, the Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has decided to engage in discussions with representatives from ISL and I-League clubs, which had previously withdrawn from earlier talks. I-League clubs have emphasized the need for a common commercial partner across all tiers of Indian football, from ISL to I-League and I-League 2, to ensure long-term stability and growth. They are also pressing for an urgent announcement regarding the I-League season starting in mid-December 2025. Meanwhile, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey’s silence on these matters is increasing the challenges ahead.
