France defeated Azerbaijan 3-1 in their final match of Group D in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Having already secured qualification, France decided to rest several star players. Azerbaijan got off to a dream start with Renat Dadashov scoring in the fourth minute. Despite conceding a goal, France remained unfazed.
In the 17th minute, Jean-Philippe Mateta equalized for France after a pass from Malo Gusto. In the 30th minute, Gusto assisted again, allowing Akli Loche to put France ahead. Just before the end of the first half, a self-goal from Azerbaijan confirmed France’s victory. In the second half, France created multiple chances, but Azerbaijan managed to keep the score from getting worse.
