Kannur: In their final home match, Kannur Warriors FC faced a setback in their semi-final chances. In the second match of the ninth round of the Amul-organized Sports.com Super League, Calicut FC defeated Kannur Warriors 2-1. The match took place at the Jawahar Municipal Stadium, where Calicut’s Sebastian Rincón and Mohammed Ashik scored, while Kannur’s captain Adrian Serdino converted a penalty.

Calicut, with 20 points from nine matches, remains at the top of the table. Kannur, with 10 points, is in fifth place. To reach the semi-finals, Kannur must win their final match against Thrissur and hope for favorable results from other teams.

Calicut’s top scorer Mohammed Ajshale, who has six goals, started the match on the bench. The team made eight changes from their last match, giving opportunities to players like Kevin Louis and Arjun.

Calicut scored in the 24th minute when Mohammed Ashik crossed from the left, allowing Sebastian Rincón to score with a swift touch (1-0). In the 35th minute, Sinan reached the Calicut goal, but the referee called it offside. At the end of the first half, a yellow card was shown to Calicut’s Aslam for a foul.

At the start of the second half, Calicut introduced Federico Buvaso. In the 52nd minute, Kannur’s Adrian Serdino had a shot saved by Calicut goalkeeper Hajmal. Calicut doubled their lead in the 65th minute with a goal from Mohammed Ashik, assisted by Federico Buvaso (2-0). Following this, Calicut made substitutions, while Kannur brought on Asif and Kareem.

In the 74th minute, Kannur pulled one back with a penalty converted by Adrian Serdino after a handball by Alexis Sosa (2-1). At halftime, both teams had faced off, ending in a 1-1 draw. A total of 11,127 spectators attended the match.

On Sunday (November 30), the final match of the ninth round will see Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC face Malappuram FC. If Thiruvananthapuram wins, they will become the third team to qualify for the semi-finals. The match will kick off at 7:30 PM at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.
