Spanish national team midfielder and three-time Ballon d’Or winner, Aitana Bonmatí, will undergo surgery due to a fibula fracture in her left ankle. The injury occurred during training, confirmed by the Spanish Football Federation. As a result, Bonmatí will be sidelined for a significant period.
Bonmatí will miss Spain’s second-leg match against Germany in the upcoming Women’s Nations League final, as well as crucial December matches for Barcelona before the Liga F winter break. The surgery will take place under the supervision of Dr. Antoni Dalmau in Barcelona.
It is expected to take at least three months for her to fully recover and return to the pitch, although this could change depending on her physiotherapy progress. Bonmatí has scored six goals and provided three assists in Liga F this season, and she recently won the Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive time.
