Inter Miami has signed Mexican forward German Berterame to a designated player contract, which will run through the 2028-29 season.
Previously with Monterrey since 2022, Berterame’s contract includes an extension option for the 2029-2030 season.
During his time at Monterrey, he scored 68 goals and provided 15 assists in 153 matches across all competitions. Berterame, born in Argentina, has also become a naturalized Mexican citizen and may be selected for Mexico at this summer’s World Cup after netting two goals in eight appearances.
“When I renewed my contract with Monterrey, I told (club sporting director Hector Lara), ‘I’m not leaving unless something really eye-catching comes along.’ I was obviously thinking about teams from Europe. And I also said, ‘Unless Messi comes and takes me with him.’ So that anecdote stayed with me,” he shared.
This mention of Messi relates to the celebrated player, who is the reigning MVP in Major League Soccer and is entering his third full season with Inter Miami.
