The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to improve their inconsistent defense. They will likely be active before the February 5 trade deadline to acquire a three-and-D wing player.
Recently, they have been monitoring De’Andre Hunter of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who has been involved in trade rumors.
The Lakers are interested in De’Andre Hunter
“As the Lakers continue to be linked to DeāAndre Hunter, the Cavs have been in discussions with a couple of other teams regarding him,” reported ClutchPoints insider Siegel on X. “The Nets have emerged as a third team to facilitate the trade. Hunter is likely to be traded before February 5.”
While Hunter’s performance has declined this season, this may be related to his contract situation.
He has had injury issues in the past, but he has proven to be an excellent wing defender who can shoot effectively.
According to Basketball Reference, the former Atlanta Hawks pick is averaging 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game with a shooting percentage of 42.2.
Hunter would be an improvement over both Rui Hachimura and Jarred Vanderbilt. With Lakers coach JJ Redick expressing concern over the team’s defense, it would not be surprising if GM Rob Pelinka makes a significant effort to finalize a trade.
