Managers sometimes disagree with their clubs on high-profile signings, as was the case with former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca and winger Alejandro Garnacho.
Chelsea’s decision to pay £40 million for Garnacho has not been well-received, and many supporters were not in favor of it at the time.
Maresca was also against this choice, as he preferred that Chelsea sign more center backs, especially after Levi Colwill suffered a torn ACL.
Despite several chances to secure a solid defender during the summer and winter transfer windows, Chelsea continues to struggle defensively.
Meanwhile, Garnacho has struggled to make an impact and appears to be one of the least effective attackers on the team.
Although new signings Estevao Willian and Joao Pedro have performed well, Garnacho’s poor form raises questions about the club’s spending, especially since they could have invested in a capable center back instead.
Garnacho has not delivered strong performances, confirming Maresca’s belief that Chelsea should have prioritized a central defender instead of the former Manchester United player, who recently struggled to complete a game against one of the weakest teams in the Premier League, West Ham United, before being substituted by the new coach.
