Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield faces challenges.
With the deadline approaching, Tottenham Hotspur is actively seeking last-minute deals to strengthen their squad. Coach Thomas Frank aims to improve the team’s performance.
Spurs previously signed Conor Gallagher and Souza, but more reinforcements are needed. The midfield area notably requires attention.
Recently, Tottenham has faced issues in midfield and defense. Frank lost Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall to long-term injuries, and Joao Palhinha has also missed games due to a minor injury. Additionally, Yves Bissouma’s contract expires this summer.
It is crucial to enhance the midfield, especially after Gallagher’s signing from Atletico Madrid.
Tottenham is interested in Club Brugge midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Tottenham has recently scouted Club Brugge midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic.
“Many English clubs have watched him live, including Tottenham and Manchester United,” said Moretto on Fabrizio Romano’s channel.
“Inter Milan is also following Stankovic closely and can bring him back in July 2026 for €23 million or in July 2027 for €25 million.”
“Ultimately, the decision is in Inter’s hands.”
A complex situation
Aleksandar Stankovic joined Club Brugge from Inter Milan last summer and has performed well. He has played 36 games, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. Inter Milan is monitoring his development and holds options to re-sign him, giving them a strong position regarding his future.
For Tottenham, there is uncertainty about Palhinha’s loan from Bayern Munich turning into a permanent deal. Even if they choose to keep him, he may not be a long-term solution as he will be 31 by the 2026/27 season. Spurs would benefit from a younger player, and Stankovic meets that need.
Stankovic is a holding midfielder who can also play in central defense, adding to his versatility. The 20-year-old Serbian is a solid passer, physical, energetic, and a strong tackler. His goal-scoring ability further enhances his profile.
Acquiring Stankovic aligns with Tottenham’s strategy of investing in young talent. It will be interesting to see if Spurs will make a move to secure this promising midfielder from Inter.
