In an interview with El Mundo, Alcaraz shared, “I’ve realized that words hold great power. Both positive and negative words can impact someone’s mood. That’s why I aim to choose my words carefully.”
He mentioned that some negative comments affected him and caused doubt, but he also found pride and happiness in the positive feedback.
“Fortunately, there were more good things than bad,” he added.
It’s understandable why Alcaraz might have hesitated to part ways with Ferrero. They had achieved significant success together, and such a notable change brought additional pressure on him for the future.
However, he has since silenced any doubts about his choice. He became the youngest player ever to complete the Career Grand Slam in singles and matched Bjorn Borg’s record by winning five major titles before the age of 23.
Ferrero remains one of the top coaches in tennis, but Alcaraz showed during this year’s Australian Open that his skills were always going to stand out on the Tour.
Thoughts from Federer’s Former Coach on Alcaraz-Ferrero Split
Ivan Ljubicic, who coached Roger Federer from 2015 to 2022, commented on Juan Carlos Ferrero’s influence on Alcaraz following the latter’s victory at the Australian Open.
In an interview with Sky Sports Italy, Ljubicic stated, “Great coaches share their knowledge and experiences, allowing the player to grow independently. If a coach makes a player reliant on him, that’s not effective.”
“Ferrero’s influence is lasting. His absence doesn’t diminish the foundation he built for Alcaraz. Life continues,” he added.
“Juan Carlos has also pursued golf, and both are moving forward.”
Ljubicic emphasized that it was crucial for Alcaraz to win soon after the change. “Any doubts he might have had are now gone,” he noted.
After his win in Melbourne, Alcaraz was set to compete in the Rotterdam Open but has since withdrawn. His next tournament will be the Qatar Open.
Alcaraz reached the quarter-finals in last year’s edition, which was won by Russian player Andrey Rublev.
