Los Angeles FC has signed midfielder Stephen Eustaquio on loan from FC Porto, the team announced on Friday.

Eustaquio’s loan runs until the end of June, with an option for LAFC to buy him. He will take up an international roster spot.

Since joining Porto in January 2022, he has scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 156 games across all competitions. He has also played for other Portuguese teams including Torreense, Leixoes, Chaves, and Pacos Ferreira, as well as Cruz Azul in LIGA MX.

“Stephen is an excellent midfielder with a wealth of international experience. He knows how to win and lead at top levels,” said LAFC general manager John Thorrington. “We’re thrilled to bring in a player of his caliber and believe he will have an immediate positive impact both on and off the field.”

The 29-year-old has scored four goals in 54 appearances for Canada, participating in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the upcoming 2024 Copa America.

LAFC will kick off their season with a match against MLS Cup champions Inter Miami on February 21.
