Tottenham considered January move for Serie A talent
Tottenham Hotspur’s form in the league has been poor, with only two wins in their last 15 Premier League matches. Their performance in Europe might be the only thing keeping Thomas Frank in his role.
After managing a 2-2 draw against Manchester City at home last weekend with goals from Dominic Solanke, Frank faces continued pressure to improve what has been a disappointing season. His team is currently closer to the relegation zone than to qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The Lewis Family attempted to support Frank during the winter transfer window by acquiring Conor Gallagher and Souza. Next, they aimed to find a winger to fill the gap left by Brennan Johnson’s transfer to Crystal Palace and cover the long-term injury to Mohammed Kudus.
Tottenham’s pursuit of Kenan Yildiz has ended
Juventus‘ Kenan Yildiz was one of the targets for Tottenham to strengthen their wide options this January.
Aged 20 and often compared to Del Piero, Yildiz has made significant strides this season. Playing as a No. 10 or wide playmaker, the Turkish international is known for his ability to create and convert chances, making him a highly sought-after young talent in Europe.
He has improved his performance this season, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 31 appearances. After a strong January, he was named Juventus’ Player of the Month.
Tottenham’s interest in signing Yildiz is understandable, but TEAMtalk reports that they have acknowledged the likelihood of securing him this summer is low. They had explored a transfer for the young player in January but have come to terms that their pursuit is over.
Spurs were one of several clubs keeping an eye on Yildiz as they looked to enhance their attack. However, talks between Yildiz and Juventus regarding a contract extension had stalled. Recent updates indicate that these negotiations are back on track, with Juventus nearing a deal to extend Yildiz’s contract until 2031. The player has consistently preferred to stay with Juventus.
With Yildiz seemingly set to remain with Juventus, Tottenham must now redirect their search for a left winger. Fortunately, they have other promising options, including RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande. While missing out on Yildiz is a setback due to his potential fit in Frank’s system, Spurs have time to compile a list of alternatives for the summer transfer window.
