Tottenham Defender Kevin Danso Misses 2-2 Draw with Manchester City Due to Injury
Tottenham Hotspur is facing a significant injury crisis again this season, marking the third consecutive year where key players are sidelined. Last weekend, manager Thomas Frank had only 11 fit senior players available for the match against Manchester City. Skipper Cristian Romero had to play through an illness in the first half.
With 12 first-team players currently injured, there is confusion over why the squad saw only two new players join during the winter transfer window. Tottenham added Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and young left-back Souza.
Ahead of the match against Manchester City, defenders Djed Spence and Kevin Danso were unable to play due to injuries. Spence had a calf issue, while Danso was out with a problem affecting his big toe.
Thomas Frank Updates on Kevin Danso’s Injury
Danso missed the draw with Manchester City after injuring a ligament in his big toe during the 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League the previous week. He will not travel with the team for the upcoming match at Old Trafford but Frank is optimistic that it won’t be a long-term issue.
“(The injury was) really unlucky. Each time he has played this season, he has performed well. It’s great working with him in every regard. We will know more this week about his recovery timeline, but hopefully, it will not be too long,” Frank stated during his press conference.
So far this season, Danso has made 23 appearances for Tottenham, with most being as a substitute. The Austrian international has filled in effectively for either Romero or Van de Ven, proving his value to the team. Known for his tough tackles and long throws, the 27-year-old adds a different attacking option for Spurs.
Danso’s injury comes at a crucial time for the team. Fans hope to see him back on the field later this month. In the meantime, Radu Dragusin and Joao Palhinha are set to step in as backup options in central defense for Tottenham.
