Tottenham and Arsenal may compete for a Bayern Munich midfielder this summer.

Leon Goretzka has been a significant topic during the recent winter transfer window.

The midfielder is set to leave Bayern Munich when his contract ends this season, and the club has confirmed he will depart as a free agent. Tottenham is among several clubs interested in Goretzka. Atletico Madrid also tried to bring him to their side, while Arsenal made an offer on transfer deadline day following an injury to Mikel Merino. However, Goretzka chose to stay with Bayern for the remainder of the season as they aim for a treble win.

Sources indicate that the Premier League is where Goretzka wants to play after his time at Bayern.

Reporter predicts potential north London competition for Goretzka

Journalist Heiko Niedderer suggests that Tottenham and Arsenal could vie for Goretzka’s signature if he becomes available for free.

“Negotiations with Atlético Madrid were advanced,” Niedderer reported to BILD.

“Arsenal also made a move. But Goretzka has chosen to seek a fresh start this summer.”

“It seems he is looking for a clean break. Arsenal could be another appealing option, as England is where he prefers to play.”

“Tottenham is also a possibility; I would be happy with that choice as well.”

Goretzka faces an important decision ahead

As Goretzka approaches free agency at the end of the season, many clubs will be interested in him. His wish to join the Premier League is good news for Spurs and Arsenal. However, it seems he may lean toward signing with Arsenal.

After missing out on Eberechi Eze last summer, and witnessing him shine in a recent north London derby, there is concern that they might miss out on Goretzka as well. With Tottenham fans expressing frustration over midfield performance this season, Goretzka could be a suitable addition. Yet, if Arsenal intensifies its interest, Tottenham might find itself at a disadvantage.

Mikel Arteta will likely want to improve his squad in the summer by acquiring the experienced Goretzka on a potential free transfer. This kind of challenge is what Tottenham may face for many key targets. It remains to be seen how this situation develops.
