Tottenham may look to Ligue 1 for a central defender.

Thomas Frank has faced significant challenges since he became the manager of Tottenham Hotspur last year. Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League, with only 29 points from their first 24 matches this season.

The club’s leadership still supports Frank for now, but he is under pressure due to a difficult injury crisis. The team’s defense has come under fire recently, as they have been conceding goals at a troubling rate. This situation has led to frustration for Frank, whose tactics emphasize discipline and compact play.

Cristian Romero highlighted these issues last weekend by receiving a red card after a reckless challenge on Manchester United‘s Casemiro. Romero’s absence for the next four games adds to Frank’s woes, especially after the defender expressed discontent about the club’s management on social media.

Romero has been linked with a move to Barcelona, while his center-back partner, Micky van de Ven, is reportedly attracting interest from Liverpool. It’s unlikely that Tottenham will let both starting defenders leave in the same transfer window, but failing to qualify for the Champions League could complicate their efforts to retain them.

Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell on Tottenham’s radar

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham is interested in Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell. He is now on the club’s defensive shortlist, along with Murillo from Nottingham Forest, Antonio Silva from Benfica, and Joel Ordonez from Club Brugge.

Cresswell has emerged as a promising young talent in Ligue 1 after joining Toulouse from Leeds United in the summer of 2024. Over the past 18 months, he has made more than 50 appearances and contributed 11 goals. His strong performance has caught Tottenham’s attention this season.

Born in Preston, Cresswell has a bright future in football. Tottenham should consider signing him to strengthen their defense. After a couple of years in France, he might be keen to return to England and join one of the top Premier League clubs.

The Toulouse defender could be a potential replacement for Radu Dragusin, who sought a transfer in January due to a lack of playing time. Although Dragusin decided to stay, he might push for a move in the summer to revive his career. However, competition for Cresswell’s signature from both Premier League teams and other European clubs is expected to be tough.
