Bolton Wanderers are working hard to move up from League One back to the Championship after being absent for seven seasons.

Following consecutive relegations to League Two in 2020, Bolton managed to return to League One but has faced challenges in advancing further.

Meanwhile, their women’s team competes in the fifth tier of women’s football.

Now fully integrated into club operations for the 2024/25 season, Bolton Wanderers Women are currently in third place in the North West Women’s Regional League Premier Division.

In a significant move to enhance their promotion chances, the women’s team has signed former Manchester United academy player Cerys Neil from Everton to strengthen their defense.

According to their official website, Bolton stated: “Bolton Wanderers Women are pleased to announce the signing of four talented new players as Tom Cunniff works to bolster the squad for the rest of the season.”

The statement went on: “In recent weeks, four players have joined the First Team as part of the club’s ongoing growth.”

“Molly Philpott, Maddie Leigh, Aimee Woodward, and Cerys Neil have all been added to the squad, bringing quality and experience as the team continues into the season.”

Regarding the signing of Neil, it added: “Completing the group is Cerys Neil, who joins on dual registration from Everton Women.”

“Currently in her fourth season with Everton, Cerys made her senior debut against Liverpool in the League Cup in December 2024 and has also been involved in the academies at Manchester United and Liverpool.”

“A skilled and promising full-back, Cerys offers experience from professional settings, along with pace and attacking options from her defensive position.”

After joining the Wanderers, Cerys Neil shared: “I’m very excited to dual sign for the club. I believe the playing style suits me well and will aid my development, plus I look forward to contributing to the team.”
