Tottenham gears up to face Newcastle United with a slim lead above relegation.

Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing season continued on Saturday with a 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Traditionally, Spurs have fared well against Manchester United, highlighted by their victory in last May’s Europa League final. However, their hopes of extending a six-game unbeaten streak against United took a hit when Cristian Romero was sent off in the 29th minute for a challenging tackle on Casemiro, leading to a challenging match for Tottenham.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes in each half led to Spurs suffering their 10th defeat in the Premier League this season. Following this loss, Tottenham has slipped to 15th place in the Premier League, now only five points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham has little time to recover as they host Newcastle United on Tuesday evening. The Magpies are also struggling, but they have won five of their last seven encounters against Spurs, making them the slight favorites.

Thomas Frank eager to secure a win against Newcastle United

After the defeat to Manchester United, Thomas Frank and his team are now without a league victory in their last seven matches. They have also struggled at home for the second consecutive season. Tuesday’s match presents a vital chance to lift the spirits of their supporters after a tough campaign.

In the pre-match press conference, Frank was repeatedly questioned about relegation. While he avoided clearly labeling Tottenham’s situation as a battle for survival, he acknowledged their urgent need to beat Newcastle and earn their first league win in 2026.

“We are definitely eager to win games. Eager. I am focused on Newcastle tomorrow. This is a great opportunity against a strong team. That is what matters,” Frank stated, as reported by Football London.
