Manchester United is preparing for a busy summer, with recent news about a possible transfer for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.

The club is also targeting defenders, adding Hugo Fernandez to their list of potential signings.

The recruitment team is exploring new markets in Europe, with a focus on Scandinavia growing in recent seasons.

As United emphasizes long-term squad planning and age balance, they are increasingly linked with young defenders from outside the main leagues.

One player now on their radar is Sedi Kinteh, a talented 19-year-old defender currently playing in Norway.

Kinteh, from Gambia, plays for Tromso IL, where he has showcased his athleticism, versatility, and speed.

If he joins United, it wouldn’t be the club’s first deal with Tromso IL; Isak Hansen-Aaroen signed with Manchester United in 2020 from them and has since moved to Werder Bremen and then to NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Kinteh can play as a centre-back or left-back, and his pace during defensive transitions is a key asset.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United is among several clubs watching Kinteh’s performance this season, but there are no indications that formal negotiations are taking place.

The report notes that United’s interest is currently observational, monitoring his development in the Eliteserien.

Interest in Kinteh is growing, with Chelsea FC also tracking him and clubs from continental Europe, including FC Basel and BSC Young Boys.

Despite this attention, United does not currently see Kinteh as a top target.

The club considers his profile similar to that of another highly-rated young defender, Ayden Heaven, which might explain why a move is not a priority.

Tromso is not under pressure to sell, as Kinteh has a long-term, five-year contract, providing the club with leverage over his future if interest becomes serious.

For now, United is keeping a close eye on Kinteh rather than pushing for a transfer, highlighting their continued interest in emerging defensive talent across Europe.
