Tottenham is looking to sign a central midfielder who struggled at Chelsea.
Tottenham Hotspur has decided to part ways with Thomas Frank after a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at home on Tuesday night. The club is now seeking a manager to improve their current performance.
Spurs have fallen to 16th place in the league, just two points above 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and five points from the relegation zone. One of the strategies being considered is hiring an interim manager for the rest of the season, while also searching for a full-time replacement in the summer.
Enzo Maresca and Roberto De Zerbi are potential candidates for the job, while John Heitinga could be a short-term option, providing much-needed stability. Regardless of the managerial situation, the club is also focused on reshaping the squad. They aim to add a creative player to help resolve ongoing issues with scoring and creating goals.
Tottenham shows interest in Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Former Spurs scout Mick Brown reports that Tottenham is interested in signing Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. However, Everton intends to keep the player and will likely block any offers for him this summer.
“Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has done an outstanding job at Everton,” Brown stated to Football Insider.
“He showed great potential when I first saw him play, and it’s no surprise that he has thrived under David Moyes. He brings a unique dynamism to the team.”
“While the squad has many reliable players, he has a rare ability to drive the ball forward, relieving pressure on the team and contributing to their attacking play.”
Spurs are not the only team interested in Dewsbury-Hall; Manchester City is also monitoring him. This season, he has been one of Everton’s standout performers under David Moyes.
“That’s why there is interest in him. Tottenham has been watching him closely,” added Brown.
“They are looking for that kind of player, but I doubt he will be available. Dewsbury-Hall is crucial for Everton and they would resist any offers, especially if they lose Jack Grealish.”
“Everton isn’t currently in a position where they need to sell, so I don’t see them letting him go.”
Dewsbury-Hall could be a smart addition for Spurs
Dewsbury-Hall did not make an impact at Chelsea after his move from Leicester City in 2024. His move to Everton has revitalized his career. Under Moyes, he has scored five goals and provided four assists in 19 appearances this season.
A month-long hamstring injury has only strengthened his resolve, as he has recently contributed with a goal and an assist in his last four league matches. Despite his rising stock, Everton is likely to do everything possible to keep him.
With his versatility, creativity, energy, and tenacity, the former Leicester player could be a valuable signing for Tottenham, especially as a long-term replacement for the injured James Maddison. However, any transfer decisions will likely be put on hold until a new permanent head coach is appointed.
