Even though Sesko hasn’t been a regular starter for Manchester United, he has still made significant contributions under Carrick at Old Trafford.

The Slovenian player scored a last-minute winner against Fulham earlier this month and added another late equaliser against West Ham last week.

In a recent podcast on United’s official platform, the 22-year-old shared that he initially started his career as a goalkeeper, following his father’s path.

“My dad was a goalkeeper,” he said according to Manchester United’s official site.

“He started as a player, then briefly played basketball, and later returned to football.”

“He was a goalkeeper, and I also began as a goalkeeper at a young age.”

“But during one game, I looked at my dad and said: ‘Dad, this is so boring. I have nothing to do in goal.’”

“It was difficult to watch my teammates play while I couldn’t score.”

Benjamin Sesko took a different route before becoming a forward

While many recognize Sesko for his role as a forward, he actually played as a centre-back early in his career.

He mentioned, “I enjoy being active.”

“There were moments when I was a goalkeeper, I would take the ball, run down the pitch, and score!”

“It’s been an interesting journey. I started as a centre-back and then moved up to striker.”

“I think I was around 12 or 13 when I transitioned to striker, and I’ve stayed there since.”

As Manchester United prepares for their next match against Everton, they sit in fourth place in the Premier League, five points behind third-place Aston Villa.

The match at Goodison Park is scheduled for February 23rd, kicking off at 8pm UK time.
