Questions about Arne Slot’s future at Liverpool have been a topic this season.

After a tough period, where the team suffered nine losses in 12 matches across all competitions in late 2025, many called for Slot’s dismissal.

Following that, Liverpool managed an unbeaten streak, although it included several draws against teams they were expected to defeat.

With Xabi Alonso still being mentioned as a potential replacement and Liverpool recently ending a phase of one win in seven Premier League games, concerns about the Dutch coach persist.

Jamie Carragher discussed the topic on a recent episode of the Overlap Fan Debate with Wayne Rooney.

Carragher sought Rooney’s opinion on Slot, and the former England striker did not hold back. He expressed concerns that the 47-year-old might not have the commanding presence needed for managing Liverpool.

Rooney also echoed Carragher’s sentiment that failing to secure a Champions League spot could lead to Slot’s departure from Anfield.

“It’s strange for me. I’ve met him a few times, seems like a nice person, but I just don’t think he has the presence for Liverpool. It’s tough following Jurgen Klopp, and that might be impacting him,” Rooney explained.

“But I don’t feel he possesses that commanding aura, and I’ve worked with Dutch managers who can be challenging at times.”

Current Projections for Liverpool’s Season

While not confirmed, the Premier League is likely to have five Champions League spots for the 2026/27 season.

Liverpool currently ranks sixth, three points behind Manchester United in fourth place, and with a four-goal difference between them.

They trail Chelsea by just two points as they head into the next round of matches. A good run could see them reclaim a Champions League position.

Despite being below Chelsea and Manchester United at this time, Opta’s supercomputer suggests Liverpool will finish fourth by the season’s end.

They have a 34.99% chance of qualifying for Europe’s top competition next season.
