Since Ruben Amorim left over a month ago, Manchester United has been performing well under the guidance of Michael Carrick, who is acting as the caretaker manager.
Amorim’s tenure saw the team miss out on European competition and experience a rough start to the season from Erik ten Hag’s time. The team was also eliminated from the Carabao Cup by League Two team Grimsby Town.
His inconsistent results and strict adherence to his methods, alongside blunt interviews, ultimately led to his departure.
However, Carrick’s management presents a fresh outlook.
The former United midfielder has managed to stabilize the team, achieving a victory against fierce rivals Manchester City within just three days of taking over.
This win marked the beginning of a successful streak, with four consecutive victories including wins over league leaders Arsenal, alongside Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur. Their most recent match ended in a draw against West Ham United, thanks to a late equalizer by Benjamin Sesko.
With fewer domestic and European matches this season, the club will benefit from a two-week break until they face Everton on February 23, 2026.
During this break, reports indicate that Carrick has lifted a rule set by Amorim that restricted players from traveling during their time off.
Previously, during a tough patch, Marcus Rashford and Casemiro had traveled to America to attend an NBA game, resulting in a ban on leisure trips during breaks. This rule has now been removed.
As part of the current break, Bruno Fernandes has returned to Portugal to watch a friend play, while Senne Lammens visited his former team, Royal Antwerp.
It appears that the changes under Carrick have significantly boosted team morale, with clear improvements visible on the field.
