Marcus Rashford’s future is once again in the spotlight due to new reports regarding his potential permanent transfer to Barcelona.
Initially, it was reported that Manchester United and Barcelona had started talks about Rashford’s future.
This came after growing expectations in Barcelona that they would like to activate or possibly renegotiate the option-to-buy clause in his loan agreement.
However, conflicting information has surfaced.
While some sources in Spain claim Barcelona is trying to reduce the previously agreed fee and that discussions are ongoing, Sky Sports’ Manchester United reporter Danyal Khan says no such negotiations have occurred from United’s side.
Importantly, there have been no active discussions about lowering the option fee, and there is no intention to consider this.
The current purchase option remains at around €30 million (approximately £26 million).
From Manchester United’s viewpoint, the agreement is still intact as initially set.
Rashford’s loan was arranged to provide Barcelona with clear terms for a permanent transfer.
United included a specific valuation to prevent lengthy negotiations, especially as they aim to make decisive changes to their squad under Michael Carrick this summer.
Now, it is up to Barcelona to decide whether to activate the clause as outlined.
Any notion that Manchester United is preparing to renegotiate seems to be incorrect.
Currently, the situation remains uncertain, with various reports suggesting different levels of progress in talks.
