Recent reports indicate that Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana may seek a transfer from Aston Villa in the upcoming summer window. Having joined the club in 2024 for £50 million from Everton, Onana has expressed a desire to play at a top-tier club.

Onana Seeks Elite Transfer

Former Villa scout Mick Brown recognizes the 24-year-old’s talent. However, Onana’s interest in leaving may lead to tension within the squad, especially given that clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona had previously shown interest before Villa secured his signing.

Aston Villa has leverage as Onana’s contract runs until 2029. Any interested clubs will need to provide a significant offer to persuade the management. While Villa might consider player sales to balance finances, they are unlikely to let a key player go for a low price.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Onana leaves Villa. His ambition to play at the highest level aligns with what Villa aims for,” Brown commented.

“However, suggesting he can’t achieve that with Villa might not sit well with the team.”

“I’ve been impressed with him since he arrived and see potential for him to make a significant move. He is capable of playing for a top club at his best.”

“But concerns about his consistency might deter some clubs, and even if he wishes to leave, it needs to be for the right price. While interest is likely, whether a transfer happens depends on Villa’s stance.”
