In the last two seasons, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has made a name for himself in basketball. His achievements are significant and noteworthy.
This year, he won the scoring title, league MVP, a championship, and Finals MVP. This feat hasn’t been accomplished since Shaquille O’Neal did it. The record still belongs to Michael Jordan, who achieved this four times.
As expected, comparisons to Jordan have surfaced.
SGA addresses Michael Jordan comparisons
The topic came up in an interview with Billboard, and Gilgeous-Alexander responded directly. He shared his thoughts on being compared to Jordan, as reported by Clemente Almanza from The Thunder Wire.
“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t flattering. Being in a conversation with a guy like that, who was the face of basketball, is pretty insane. However, I don’t really love being compared to Jordan. He’s a three-time champion. I think it’s unfair to compare me after just seven years to what he accomplished. I don’t enjoy these comparisons, but I do appreciate them.”
He recognized the flattering nature of the praise but emphasized that true comparisons are difficult.
