Ange Postecoglou’s comments highlight the challenges Ruben Amorim faced at Manchester United, especially after the Europa League final loss to Tottenham.

There were other disappointing moments, including an early exit from the Carabao Cup against Grimsby and a frustrating home defeat to Everton, but the final against Spurs marked a crucial turning point for United.

With fewer matches available, players from the academy, like Kobbie Mainoo, had limited chances to step up. The financial situation also affected the club’s transfer activities in January, leading to increased focus on dropped points.

In theory, Spurs vs Man Utd in a final should have favored United, given their rich history in the sport.

One team had not won major trophies, while the other was known for stepping up in big matches. However, the actual game surprised many.

Spurs applied a practical strategy, effectively neutralizing United, who appeared to struggle for solutions. Postecoglou later confirmed that this was his plan.

“At one point, I had six or seven defenders near our box. I knew if we contained Bruno, they wouldn’t score. I believed that with United’s set-up under Ruben, they wouldn’t find a way through. We maintained strong defense as long as we managed to score,” he explained.

Postecoglou’s insights reflected what many noticed later: Amorim lacked an alternative strategy and relied heavily on Bruno Fernandes to make plays.

Ruben Amorim’s rigid tactics ultimately cost him at Man Utd

Warning signs appeared during the Europa League final, but Amorim’s communication often concealed deeper issues.

Over time, it became evident that his inability to adapt greatly contributed to some of the club’s worst results.

Defeats against Grimsby and Everton were just part of a troubling trend. Amorim struggled to adjust when his plans failed, repeatedly following the same tactics.

When rivals allowed United to control the game, the strategy relied too much on Fernandes’ creativity.

Postecoglou anticipated these challenges, which played a significant role in Amorim’s eventual departure.
