Cade Cunningham has made a significant statement as the 2028 Summer Olympics approach.

With the 2026 Winter Olympics happening now, and recent changes to the All-Star Game format highlighting players by their countries, discussions about the top American basketball player are back in focus. Cunningham believes he holds that title.

In an interview with GQ’s Matthew Roberson, published on Thursday, Cunningham expressed the importance of this debate.

“I want to be on the Olympic team coming up. I think I’m the best American player,” Cunningham stated.

Cunningham did clarify that his opinion excludes Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, as they were born outside the U.S. However, he doesn’t consider them better players; it simply makes it easier for him to claim the title.
