Maxx Crosby has been mentioned in trade talks involving the San Francisco 49ers. Recently, an off-field event added a new connection.
Crosby announced on Friday that he has joined the ownership group of Leeds United, a football club in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, competing in the Premier League. Leeds United Americas shared his announcement on social media.
So, how is Crosby linked to the 49ers?
In May 2018, 49ers Enterprises bought a minority stake in Leeds United. This investment increased in 2023 when they acquired the remaining shares, and Paraag Marathe, a team executive, is now the chairman of the club.
This means Crosby and the 49ers’ ownership have a business relationship through Leeds United.
While this connection is interesting, it likely won’t affect Crosby’s NFL future directly. Reports suggest that his relationship with the Las Vegas Raiders has become strained, leading to speculation about a possible trade.
The 49ers are also in need of pass-rush support, finishing the 2025 season with just 20 total sacks, the lowest in the NFL. This situation has led analysts to connect San Francisco with top edge rushers who may become available, including Crosby.
However, acquiring a player of his talent could come at a high cost.
The Raiders reportedly want compensation equal to last year’s high-profile trade involving Micah Parsons, where the Dallas Cowboys received two first-round picks and a player from the Green Bay Packers.
Still, some experts doubt Crosby would bring such a return.
“Do I think they are getting two firsts and a player? No,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently stated.
What might a realistic offer look like?
“Any deal involving Maxx Crosby would likely require at least a first-round pick,” Schefter added.
