Despite media criticism and comments from rival fans, Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres is currently the top scorer among new Premier League No. 9s across all competitions.
Originally, Arsenal was expected to sign Benjamin Sesko, while Manchester United looked to pair Ruben Amorim with Gyokeres. Ultimately, both Gyokeres and Arsenal showed a strong preference for each other over other options.
So far this season, Gyokeres has outscored other major striker signings from the summer 2025 transfer window, netting 15 goals, while Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike follow closely with 14 goals each.
1. Viktor Gyokeres, Arsenal, 15 goals
2. Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool, 14 goals
3. Joao Pedro, Chelsea, 14 goals
4. Nick Woltemade, Newcastle United, 10 goals
5. Benjamin Sesko, Manchester United, 7 goals
Sesko is still developing and may need more time before he catches up. Pedro, Woltemade, and Ekitike are all younger than Gyokeres, highlighting how well Gyokeres has performed, especially in the Champions League.
While Ekitike and Pedro have shown strong overall performances, Woltemade has also been impressive. However, Arsenal already features Bukayo Saka and has added Eberechi Eze and Martin Odegaard to complement Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Martinelli.
They brought in Gyokeres specifically for his goal-scoring ability, and he is certainly delivering on that promise.
