Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has discussed the emotional toll his injury history is having on him.

The centre-back showed clear disappointment after Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal, which led to their exit from the Carabao Cup.

Despite a strong performance in the second leg, Fofana explained why the final result affected him so deeply.

Chelsea secured the Club World Cup and Conference League titles last season under Enzo Maresca.

However, Fofana missed both tournaments due to injuries and was not included in the Conference League squad because of fitness concerns.

This background explains why not winning the Carabao Cup has affected him so much. The loss to Arsenal meant another missed opportunity for a trophy, which is significant for him.

In a conversation with Telefoot, Fofana stated, “I was very affected. I still haven’t won a trophy with Chelsea. My teammates have won trophies, but I haven’t been present. That has affected me because I want to win a trophy this year.”

Chelsea will face Arsenal again this weekend, but Fofana will be unavailable due to suspension after receiving two yellow cards against Burnley.

Liam Rosenior will need to find a new centre-back to partner Trevoh Chalobah, who is expected to play at the Emirates.

Badiashile a preferred choice to replace Fofana

Many fans are hopeful to see Mamadou Sarr in the lineup following his return from Strasbourg, but Benoit Badiashile may be a better fit for this crucial match.

Badiashile offers the physical presence and experience that will be needed against a strong Arsenal side. He is also skilled on the ball, averaging nearly 78 passes per 90 minutes with an accuracy of just under 93%. If he’s healthy, Badiashile should start at the Emirates.
