Last week’s discussions about Alexis Mac Allister left both Liverpool and Manchester United wondering.
The two clubs have not exchanged players since the early 1960s, making it seem unlikely that this trend would change this summer.
However, if Liverpool decides to sell the Argentine midfielder, other clubs will certainly show interest. Manchester United, though, is unlikely to be among them, underscoring the rarity of such transfers between the two teams.
Dean Jones has commented on these speculations, mentioning that sources from both clubs doubt any deal will happen. “Someone close to the situation wouldn’t bet on it,” Jones stated.

It’s understandable why United would be interested in Mac Allister. Their midfield is lacking, and Casemiro’s career seems to be winding down.
However, pursuing a player from Liverpool was never a practical option.
Jones noted to TEAMtalk that people within United are not taking the rumors seriously, as the story appeared suddenly.
The rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United is one of the strongest in England, with a long history of mutual dislike.
If Jim Ratcliffe expected a different scenario, it shows a disconnect from fan sentiments, something that has occurred before.
Alexis Mac Allister is suited for a Champions League team
As the competition for a top-five finish heats up, every point is critical. Manchester United’s victory over Everton has given them some distance from Liverpool and Chelsea, but there is still much to play for.
Until Michael Carrick leads United closer to the Champions League, they aren’t quite there yet.
If Mac Allister does leave, it’s likely that a leading European club will make a move for him. At 27, he still has several strong years ahead and would be a good fit in any top squad.
Whether he moves could depend on how he performs this season. While I would prefer him to stay, the club does need to secure a high-quality defensive midfielder.
If that can be achieved without losing Mac Allister, it would be even better.
