Inter Milan has been rumored to be interested in Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone. However, president Giuseppe Marotta has dismissed these claims, addressing the media before the Champions League matches featuring Atleti against Club Brugge and Inter against Bodo Glimt.

Simeone led his team through a tough match against Brugge, securing a place in the Round of 16 of the Champions League after a dominant performance in the second leg. Inter, on the other hand, faces uncertainty following a 3-1 defeat to Bodo in their first leg.

Atletico is currently not in contention for the La Liga title. In his first year as manager, Christian Chivu has positioned Inter as clear leaders in the league, especially as Napoli struggles after last season’s championship win.

This context explains Marotta’s support for Chivu instead of pursuing the more established Simeone, who has been speculated to leave Atleti but has remained loyal, leading the club to two titles in the 2010s and 2020s.

Marotta stated, via Fabrizio Romano, “Reports from Spain about a pre-contract with Diego Simeone are completely false. We are very happy with our coach Cristian Chivu.”

Chivu is set to stay on. Inter Milan previously lost coach Simone Inzaghi to the Saudi Pro League last summer, so adding more instability is not desirable. There is potential for Chivu to become a successful manager in Serie A.
