Tottenham Plans Defensive Rebuild Amid Uncertain Futures of Players
Tottenham Hotspur may consider changes after a disappointing season in the Premier League. Igor Tudor needs to ensure the team stays out of the relegation zone while the club prepares for the summer transfer window.
Some Spurs players are likely to leave. Cristian Romero’s future is uncertain after a season filled with issues and speculation about his departure. Micky van de Ven is also attracting interest from top European clubs. Even if Tottenham avoids relegation, it may be challenging to keep Romero, Van de Ven, and others without European football next season.
Tottenham must be realistic about summer transfers. Attracting top players will be difficult, so focusing on youth might be essential.
Tottenham Shows Interest in Atalanta Defender
Italian newspaper Tuttosport reports that Tottenham is among several clubs keeping an eye on Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor. Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United are also interested, while Atletico Madrid scouts have praised him. AC Milan and Napoli are keen on the young player as well.
Since joining Atalanta from Genoa last summer, Honest Ahanor has become one of the top young talents in Serie A. The 18-year-old versatile defender has played 24 matches this season, scoring one goal. His impressive form has raised the possibility of him joining Italy’s squad for the upcoming World Cup, despite not having played at youth levels for the nation.
Atalanta spent €20 million to bring Ahanor from Genoa, so they will likely demand a significant fee for him after just one season. A bidding war could emerge if they decide to entertain offers for the left-footed defender.
Although Tottenham has the resources to attract young talent, competing with the top clubs for Ahanor will be challenging. However, given Tottenham’s history of developing young players and the influx of Serie A talent in recent years, Ahanor may be inclined to join the club under a new permanent manager.
