Peter Schmeichel has shared his thoughts on Senne Lammens after the goalkeeper joined Manchester United, according to presenter Steve Bower.

Senne Lammens joined Manchester United as the final signing of the 2025 summer transfer window, coming on board under Ineos ownership.

The 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper was signed from Royal Antwerp for an initial fee of £18.1 million, during the management of Ruben Amorim.

Lammens made his move to England on deadline day last September and has begun to show positive signs at his new club.

Senne Lammens has taken the role of Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper for the 2025-26 season, succeeding Andre Onana, who transferred to Trabzonspor in 2025.

The former Royal Antwerp goalkeeper has achieved five clean sheets in his first 22 matches for United across various competitions.

During Premier League Productions’ coverage of Manchester United’s narrow victory over Everton on Monday, Michael Owen expressed his admiration for Lammens’ performances so far.

“Yeah, really impressive,” Owen noted. “It’s a position that has been problematic. They’ve almost stumbled upon Lammens in many ways.”

Bower highlighted Owen’s use of “stumbled” and mentioned that even Peter Schmeichel was unfamiliar with Lammens prior to his signing.

“Well, you say stumbled,” Bower responded. “Let’s give credit to the recruitment team for finding him. I texted Peter Schmeichel the day he signed.”

“You know what Peter Schmeichel said? He watches goalkeepers everywhere and said: ‘I’ve never heard of him, Steve.’”

Since joining, Schmeichel has been supportive of Lammens, who has quickly adapted to his new role. While it’s still early, he appears comfortable in his position.

Notably, Lammens has been dependable, showing fewer high-profile mistakes compared to Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir. He exhibits both confidence and authority in goal.

Lammens earned the starting position under Amorim and has maintained it since Michael Carrick became caretaker manager.

Among his five league clean sheets this season, three have come under Carrick’s guidance since Amorim left last month.
