Arsenal signed Martin Zubimendi during the recent transfer window to create a strong midfield partnership with Declan Rice. However, the team is still interested in adding another top deep-lying midfielder, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali.
Currently, there are no strong signals that Tonali wants to leave Newcastle, but the possibility is there. Journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned on The United Stand that Arsenal is ready to look into a serious deal if the Italian player decides to leave St. James’s Park.
Manchester United is also interested in Tonali, who has been linked with a return to Italy, particularly with Juventus. He made a name for himself at AC Milan before transferring to Newcastle in 2023.
This season, Tonali has performed well for Newcastle, showcasing his skills as a leader and deep-lying playmaker, often compared to a stronger version of Andrea Pirlo from his earlier days at Brescia and AC Milan.
If Tonali leaves, it seems likely he would stay in the Premier League, as Newcastle aims to keep both him and Bruno Guimaraes. However, top clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City could tempt him away.
Arsenal already has Mikel Merino and Christian Norgaard supporting Rice and Zubi, making it clear how much influence and control they could have in midfield with Tonali’s dynamic style and passing ability under Mikel Arteta.
