The Philadelphia Union dominated the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup series against Defence Force, winning 7-0 on Thursday in Chester, Pennsylvania. This result added to their 5-0 victory from the first leg, bringing the aggregate score to 12-0, which moves them into the Round of 16 against Club America from Mexico.
Stas Korzeniowski and 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan each scored two goals in this match. Sullivan made history as the youngest U.S. player to score in a CONCACAF Champions Cup game.
The first goal of the match came in the seventh minute after a corner kick, when Jovan Lukic’s shot was blocked, and Geiner Martinez found the ball, scoring with his left foot from 12 yards out. Lukic extended the lead to 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 10th minute, and Korzeniowski added a third goal shortly after, completing a solid team play.
In the second half, Korzeniowski scored again in the 48th minute, followed by Ben Bender in the 53rd, with Sullivan netting two more goals in the 76th and 88th minutes.
