Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili are currently sharing the role of Liverpool‘s main goalkeeper, but this could change next season.
Mamardashvili joined Anfield ahead of the 2025/26 season after a deal was settled in the summer of 2024.
This season, Mamardashvili has struggled to find playing time, as Alisson holds the starting position most of the time.

This might lead to changes in goalkeeper hierarchy next season. Graeme Bailey from TeamTalk recently updated the situation regarding both players.
He clarified information about Alisson’s contract. Contrary to some claims that it runs until 2027, Bailey stated it actually ends in 2026. However, Liverpool has an option to extend it for another year, which they are expected to exercise.
If they do extend Alisson’s contract, it could further affect Mamardashvili’s future at the club. Frustrated with his limited opportunities, he is now considering a loan move for the 2026/27 season to gain more playing time.
Liverpool is aware of his concerns but has not made any decisions yet. If he does go out on loan, they will likely need to find another goalkeeper to fill the vacancy.
Although Mamardashvili hasn’t had much playing time this season, he did play five Premier League matches when Alisson was injured. Unfortunately, Liverpool lost four of those matches and secured just one clean sheet in a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa.
