Atlanta United has signed midfielder Matias Galarza on loan from Argentina’s River Plate as of Monday.

The 24-year-old Paraguayan’s contract lasts until June 30 and includes an option to buy.

Galarza has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 151 professional matches in Brazil and Argentina since 2021.

He has also netted two goals in 13 appearances for Paraguay.

“Matias is a talented young player who will bring energy and intensity to our midfield,” noted Chris Henderson, Atlanta’s chief soccer officer and sporting director. “At 24, he has experience in important matches in South America, recently helping Paraguay qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. We’re excited to have him in Atlanta.”

The Five Stripes have lost both of their opening games of the 2026 MLS season 2-0, including the recent match against the San Jose Earthquakes. They will have their home opener on Saturday against Real Salt Lake.
