Former NBA player Markelle Fultz is making a comeback in professional basketball. The NBA G League announced that Fultz’s rights have been acquired by Raptors 905, allowing him to compete in the G League.
At just 27 years old, Fultz was the top pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. However, his time in Philadelphia was short-lived, as he played only two seasons and averaged 7.7 points per game. Other players from the 2017 draft class, like Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell, have gone on to achieve All-Star status.
Fultz faced challenges during his tenure with the 76ers due to a shoulder injury, which was later identified as thoracic outlet syndrome. This injury affected his shooting. He later played for the Orlando Magic from 2019 to 2024, contributing an average of 11.6 points and 4.8 assists per game, mostly in a supporting role.
Last season, he had a brief stint with the Sacramento Kings, making 21 appearances off the bench. However, he remained unsigned until now as his professional career seemed to be winding down.
Fultz’s return to the G League offers him a chance to revive his basketball career. About a year ago, he drew interest from an NBA team, and he aims to use this opportunity in the G League as a platform for a potential return to the NBA in the 2026-27 season.
